Atenistas: Put in a good word for Athens on the blackboard! (photos)

Blackboard Athens is a project by volunteer group, Atenistas, aiming to gather the thoughts of both residents and tourists of Athens, with the intention to reveal what they choose to see: eventually the positive aspects of Athens, is what they see. It took 10 people on Saturday morning to create a Blackboard in order to collect these thoughts.

They decided to focus on Athens, as similar projects are happening abroad, but also raise a general question. The wall chosen is very special, it belongs to ‘Cine Thission’ on Apostolou Pavlou pedestrian street, rated as “the most beautiful open cinema in the world” by many international critics. The owner -to whom we are very grateful- agreed to the project and so it begun. Just 6 hours later , some blackboard paint, stencil, tape, chalks, a bit of white and red color and the board was ready for use. In fact the board was put to use immediately as people spontaneously gathered and started writing (even before the project was completed).

The blackboard finally aroused something beautiful and familiar in our minds while the question raised was answered with positiveness and love for Athens. “Special, unique, tasty food, warm people, cradle of civilization” were some of those things that people value in our city. In the end, while observing the comments, we found nothing excessive. Athens is really special and we are all lucky to live here! Let’s not forget it! Viva Athens!
