Cars With Cameras To Assist Bulgarian Roadside Police
Hundreds of Bulgarian drivers will be joining the battle against violators of road traffic rules. Selected cars will be equipped with free cameras and will thus be providing information to roadside police officers.
The project will last for three months and drivers will take turns using the cameras for a term of a week each. The devices will be placed at the front window capturing everything on the road ahead. Then, in case of a road violation, a special signal will be sent to police officers.
''We as citizens need to assist the police in investigating and catching people who violate the rules,'' stated road safety expert Liubka Marinova in an interview for Nova TV.
After the illegal activity is captured on camera it could then be posted on the Facebook page ''Drive with a Camera''. The signals will then be submitted to police authorities. People positing will, however, need to provide contact information for follow-up questioning.
Additionally, the footage can also be used for insurance purposes in case of a road accident, as is the practice in a number of countries.
