Bulgarian Co Hired as Subcontractor to Help Repair Albania Power Plant

A Bulgarian company is now engaged in repair works at Komani, Albania's biggest hydro power plant (HPP), local reports suggest.

The BGN 1 M (EUR 0.5 M) has been commissioned by the Albanian utility KESH, the state-owned electric company in the country.

CERB (Centralna Energoremontna Baza) is taking part as a subcontractor to Andrits Hydro GmbH (Austria) and will replace parts (including the cooling unit) at three of Komani's voltage transformers, according to the website money.bg.

Repair works are expected to extend the HPP's life by 8 to 10 years. The voltage transformers currently in use were produced in 1984 and no upgrades have been made on them since they were first installed.

With a capacity of 600 MW, CERB is by far the biggest of Albania's three HPPs which provide for some 65% of the country's electricity.
