Greek FinMin says Greece has tried to cater ot “strange demands”

Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis told Irish radio station RTE on Friday taht Greece has done everything it could to accommodate the “strange demands” made by its creditors. He added that his country is determined to remain part of the euro zone.

Varoufakis said that the Irish people knew very well about interantional creditors, adding that it was important to know that negotiations were between mwember states and international creditors and not amongst themselves. He complained that the Irish government had been kept in the dark about what Greece had offered and would likely change their perspective if they knew.

“If your finance minister and I were to sit down and I were to explain my proposals….Michael Noonan would agree that they are very reasonable” he said.

Varoufakis also said that the creditors’ offer is “clearly unviable”, highlighting pensions and higher tax on the islands as sticking points, according to Reuters news agency.
