Reuters: Europeans Switching to Destinations in Spain, Bulgaria Following Tunisia Terrorist Attacks
Bulgaria could be one of the countries benefitting from the deflection of the tourist stream away from Tunisia, according to a Reuters report, as quoted by South China Morning Post.
European destinations such as Spain, Bulgaria and even Greece could become preferred destinations for tourists looking for relatively low-cost all-inclusive packages.
Tunisia has been suffering from a severe downfall in tourist numbers ever since the year 2010 and the start of the Arab Spring. Tourists amounted to 3.8 million in 2010 and only last year did they reach 2.8 million.
However, the bomb attack on June 26 left 38 people dead, most of which were British tourists. The attack was a second severe blast on the country's economy after two gunmen opened fire on tourists at the local Bardo Museum earlier in March of this year.
According to Chair of the Spanish Hotel Federation Juan Molas, many tourists are likely to prefer going to destinations of similar class in Bulgaria and Spain.
