Greek tourism + shopping + reading + web surfing = Solidarity!
The eyes of the world are on Greece again as people watch the country slowly disintigrate with capital controls, payment stoppages, food and gas shortages and other problems. Everybody wants to know what will happen next and the effects that eurocrats’ decisions will have on the everyday lives of cash-strapped people. There are ways of helping Greece:
* Go on a vacation to Greece. The weather is stunning, the sandy beaches are plentiful, food is exquisite, the archeology is of the finest in the world, prices are cheaper than ever and the people are grateful and welcoming. Tourism is no longer just entertainment, but solidarity. Take euros with you and spend at local businesses rather than international companies.
* Whether in Greece or abroad, buy from Greek producers, such as Apivita, Fisika, Korres, drink Mythos, Fix or Vergina, buy Greek olives.
* Choose a Greek charity to support. Try crowdfunding for Greece.
* Activists would like you to sign their petitions to drop the debt, join the solidarity campaign, etc.
* Read as much as you can on the subject. The crisis did not happen because Greeks are lazy. It is multifaceted, complex and seeded in the way the global finance system is interrelated.
* Promote Greek dignity. Be aware of all that it is that Greeks have given to the world.
