Banks unlikely to be open to public by Monday

Bank sources have stated concern that banks may not be in a position to open on Monday following Alternate Minister Dimitris Mardas announcement that this would be the case on Thursday night.

The Bank of Greece and Ministry of Finace are examining all options so that bank branches can be opened to depositors as soon as possible. The same sources point to a large number of technical measures that need to be regulated so that banks can be open to the public.

The conditions at the moment mean that it is unlikely that banks iwll open on Monday, hwoever they may be open on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The hopes for the opening of banks on Monday after a 20-year closure due to capital controls was opened following a decision by the board of directors of the European Central Bank for liquidity to Greek banks via ELA. Banks may be open by Tuesday or Wednesday.
