Varoufakis: I stick by my ‘Plan B’
Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble planned to impose the Troika on Paris, Rome and Madrid in an interview to Spanish ‘El Pais’.
Asked whether he would have ‘pushed the button’ to activate his ‘Plan B’ he unreservedly replied ‘yes’, adding that his view to implement his plan was in the minority and he respected the majority’ view to reject his plan.
Varoufakis stood by his plan to implement a parallel currency, adding that the current deal the Greek government has entered into with its creditors is designed to fail. He says that the current Greek bailout plan is part of Schauble’s larger scheme to redesign the whole Eurzone.
According to Varoufakis, Paris is the ‘the ultimate destination for the Troika’, ‘the grande trophy’, as he puts it. On the matter of whether a Grexit will finally occur he expressed hope that it can be avoided, but predicts that political upheaval in Greece will ensue as a result of the Greek government being unable to implement the bailout plan.
