PKK opens fire on military hospital in Turkey's east

A group of militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers? Party (PKK) opened fire late Aug. 2 on a military hospital in the eastern province of Bitlis, but no casualties were reported.

The Bitlis Governor?s Office said in a statement that the militants opened fire with long-barreled guns on the hospital in the Tatvan district from the roof of a work center. The governor?s office said only the hospital?s guard tower sustained material damage.

The militants fled the scene in a black car, the statement read.

In a separate attempt early Aug. 3, PKK militants exploded a mine laid on the Bitlis-Diyarbak?r motorway as two military vehicles were passing by. No casualties were reported in the attack.
