US removes November 17 from list of foreign terrorist groups
The United States removed November 17 from the list of foreign terrorist groups, according to a statement of the US Treasury.
US State Secretary John Kerry revoked the characterization of the organization November 17 as terrorist, according to the official newspaper of the federal government (Federal Register).
“After consulting with the Departments of Justice and the Treasury, I conclude that the circumstances that were the basis for the characterization of the Revolutionary Organization 17 November as foreign terrorist organization have changed in such a way as to warrant revocation of the characterization,” said Kerry.
He did not give, though, more details about the decision and the circumstances justifying this action.
The report of the US State Department on terrorism of 2014 describes the November 17 as a “far-left organization,” which is responsible for the killings of American officials and public figures in Greece.
