Turkish soldier killed by gunfire from across border with Syria

One soldier was killed on Sept. 9 as a result of a gunfire from across the Syrian border in the Reyhanl? district of Hatay province.

Infantryman Gökhan Çak?r, 21, was wounded at 2 a.m. as military personnel at the Cilvegözü border post were patrolling beside the Syrian border following a notice by soldiers on duty regarding a disturbance on the Syrian side. 

Çak?r was rushed to Antakya State Hospital after being hit by gunfire but later succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the Hatay Governor's Office said security forces responded with gunfire at the location from which the bullet came in line with the rules of engagement.
