VUCIC IN THE USA Prime minister in Washington, meets with U.S. officials

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic will continue his several-day visit to the United States with a meeting today with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, he said that he expects the meeting to result in further support to Serbia.

 

On the second day of the visit to the US, the prime minister will also have meetings with US Congress and Senate members, as well as the president of the Brookings Institution Strobe Talbott, the Serbian government press office said in a statement.

 

Prime Minister Vucic will round off his visit with separate meetings with Secretary General of the Organization of American States Luis Almagro, IMF chief Christine Lagarde and United States Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce Andrews.

 

Vucic has already met with Vice President of the United States Joseph Biden, who "commended efforts made by the Serbian government and stressed that the entire region's success depended on success of reforms in Serbia."

 

During the meeting in Washington on Tuesday, Biden also "stressed that the European Union would be complete when Serbia became its member-state."

Vucic and Biden discussed bilateral relations, Serbia's European path, the migrant crisis, investments made by U.S. companies and the investment climate in Serbia.

 

They also talked about regional stability and cooperation in the energy sector, the Serbian government's media relations office said.

 

Vucic briefed Biden about Serbia's progress in economic reforms and the European integration process, stressing that Serbia needed U.S. support there.
