Three suspects detained in case of Turkish media group head armed assault

Three suspects were detained on Oct. 14 during an operation over the Aug. 20 armed assault targeting the chairman of Turkish media outlet Star, daily Hürriyet has reported.

Istanbul counter-terrorism police detained three suspects, who were released in a vehicle commandeering investigation, over allegations of attempted assassination. Meanwhile, the other three arrested suspects from the attack were also taken to the Istanbul Security General Directorate to give a statement.

In the previous operation, six suspects, who had criminal records for robbery, commandeering and injuring, were detained over vehicle usurping. Three were arrested and the other three were released.

Sancak, who is also the nephew of businessman Ethem Sancak, was caught in crossfire on Aug. 20 along with his bodyguard and driver in Istanbul's Had?mköy district at around 12:00 p.m. According to the police investigation, a total of 21 bullets hit their car. However, Sancak and his bodyguards managed to survive the attack and no casualties were reported.

Speaking in an interview on a special broadcaster on Oct. 2, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu announced that the perpetrators of the attack had been apprehended, however, there had been no further developments on the issue since then.

Sancak is the chairman of MT Group which operates in the health, real estate and technology sectors. He is also the chairman of Star Media, a pro-government media group.
