Crime and Punishment Film Fest in Istanbul

The 5th International Crime and Punishment Film Festival kicked off Oct. 15 at a ceremony in Istanbul's Cemal Re?it Rey Concert Hall. 

Head of the festival Professor Adem Sözüer said the festival handled a universal problem through the perspective of justice every year. He said this year's theme was "Discrimination." 

The festival will screen 30 features, seven documentaries and 10 short films from 23 countries. 

Emin Alper's award-winning film "Abluka" (Frenzy), which won the Golden Ball and Venice Film Festival awards this year, is among the films to be shown at the festival. 

The films will be shown at Beyo?lu Atlas Movie Theater as well as Caddebostan Culture Center in Kad?köy. The documentaries will be shown throughout Oct. 19 at the Atlas Movie Theater. 

As well as film screenings, the festival will feature 15 panel discussions, featuring participation from academics, film producers, directors, actors, critics and NGO representatives until Oct. 22.
