Aigilia island to be turned into “a summer Davos”, says Deputy FM

Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas talked on Monday to Athina 9.84 radio station about government’s plan to turn a Greek island into a “summer Davos”

“We will hand over an area to the UN member states in order to build a lodge for conferences,” he said.

“We have budgeted the investment at 1.6-2.0 billion euros. The construction cost will be totally covered by the countries interested in building the lodge,” Mr. Mardas explained.

Our aim is to turn this “island of art and philosophy” into an international conference centre with people from all over the world.

Mardas noted that the NSRF funds will be 20 billion, while investments of 80 billion euros are still required. “Medium and large-sized investments are needed. We have focused on attracting foreign investment,” he noted.
