Tsipras bursts out on social security issue
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras proposed at the political leaders’ meeting to form two separate committees where all parties would participate: a committee for social insurance and a committee for the revision of Constitution.
New Democracy interim president Giannis Plakiotakis, PASOK leader Fofi Genimmata and Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis rejected the proposal.
Mr. Tsipras also proposed to the political leaders to sign a joint statement for the social insurance which was also rejected by the political leaders.
According to Prime Minister’s associates, Mr. Tsipras came back with a second proposal. He asked the political leaders to issue a joint statement mentioning that no further reductions in pensions should be applied.
The political leaders rejected again his proposal since they reportedly thought that Mr. Tsipras was trying to trap them and that the social security reform had already been decided by the government and the creditors.
Then, Mr. Tsipras presented to political leaders details of the pension reductions applied based on the first two Memoranda from 2010 to 2014. “You have the nerve to say that this was the worst memorandum, when these reductions applied during your term of service?” said Mr. Tsipras according to government sources.
