Reuters: Greek-Turkish Twitter dogfight caused by an error
The unbelievable Twitter exchange which took place between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu started by an error made by Tsipras’s aide, Reuters reports citing a Greek official.
“Greece and Turkey fought a brief dogfight on Twitter over Turkey’s downing of a Russian warplane due to an error by an aide in Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ office,” a Greek official said.
“There was a mistake. Tsipras did indeed say this to Davutoglu (in a private meeting) but it wasn’t intended to be made public, so they were erased,” the official said, even though the Tweets in Greek have not been deleted yet.
What they haven’t explained, though, is why only the English tweets were deleted, whereas the Greek tweets are still onTsipras’s account and how come an aide who attends the meeting of the two leaders posts the relevant phrases on Twitter without Prime Minister’s approval.
