Croats Slate MOST Coalition Switch on Facebook

 

Croatia's Bridge of Independent Lists, MOST, has received over 3,600 comments in less than 24 hours on a Facebook page after opting to form a government with the centre-right parties.

The sudden change of heart by the party that emerged as "kingmaker" in the recent elections appears to have dashed the hopes of the centre-left coalition, Croatia Grows, led by the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

The centre-right Patriotic Coalition is led by Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ.

MOST president Bozo Petrov and HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko on Tuesday asked President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic for an additional 24 hours to come up with a prime minister-designate.

Grabar Kitarovic gave them until 6pm on Wednesday to come up with a candidate.

Although some Facebook users liked MOST's status post on changing its potential coalition partners, and supported it, most of the comments were negative, including those of people who say they voted for MOST in the parliamentary elections in November.

Some comments using abusive words and curses when targeting party chief Bozo Petrov.

"Bozo, didn't you say that you won't make a coalition with any of the [main] options? Didn't they teach you in church you not to lie?" Ivan Pavlovic asked.

He was referring to Petrov's campaign move in depositing a written statement with a public notary, rejecting the possibility of any post-elections coalitions, while also referring to his publicly stated religiosity. "Bozo, are you ashamed at least a little bit?" Zeljko Markovic wrote.

"This is hilarious... what a theatre play... Bozo could at least work more on his role... as pathetic as it can be," Ivan Novak wrote, sharing his disgust with the development.
