A number of deputies from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) health commission visited on Jan. 11 the southeastern province of Diyarbak?r, where military operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) are continuing.

Members of the CHP's health commission, including deputies Prof. Dr. Nurettin Demir, Dr. Niyazi Nefi Kara, Dr. Ali ?eker, Dr. Murat Emir, Dr. Çetin Ar?k and Orhan Sar?bal visited Diyarbak?r on Jan. 11 to monitor a curfew which has been in effect in the province's Sur district since Dec. 2, 2015.

The commission members paid their first visit to Diyarbak?r Gov. Hüseyin Aksoy. "We are very concerned and sad for the ongoing incidents in the region. We are here to monitor the area first hand and we know that the health workers are working night and day with great effort," said Prof. Dr. Demir, speaking on behalf of the commission in front of the governor's office after the meeting.

"We came here to increase the motivation of the locals and health workers. We hope and expect that this war will end as soon as possible," he added. Responding to a question over claims bodies had been left on the streets in the city, Demir said they confirmed there were no such incidents in the area.In Photos: At least 27 refugees' bodies wash ashore on Turkey's Aegean coast In Photos: Greek Orthodox Christians dive into cold water to retrieve holy crossIn Photos: Celebrities walked the red carpet at the 73rd Golden GlobesIn photos: Turkey commemorates Rumi with 'Night of Union' ceremony in KonyaIn Photos: Ta?yaran Valley in Aegean region to become nature parkPictures released by the Armed Forces depict destruction in southeastern Sur amid clashes, curfewIn Photos: Marks of violence visible across Nusaybin after lifting...
