Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor Discusses White-Collar Crime with FBI Agent

Bulgarian Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov has met with FBI special agent Davon Mahoney, who works on cases of foreign corruption practices, the prosecuting authority has said.

Mahoney's visit to Sofia has taken place with the cooperation of the US Embassy in Sofia.

The United States' Foreign Corruption Practices Act (FCPA) of 1977 is aimed at preventing companies or employees to influence others by offering payments or rewards. If an individual is involved in such activities, both he and the company he is working for are subject to scrutiny.

Tsatsarov is quoted as telling Mahoney, after becoming familiar with details of the FCPA, that corruption practices in the private sector are one of the focuses of attention for Bulgaria's prosecutors at the moment, and an update to the respective legislation is needed.
