State revenue decreased in 2015

Despite the tax hikes imposed in 2015, the Greek state managed to collect less revenue compared with 2014.

Although the VAT rate increased on the islands, food and other products, revenue from VAT in 2015 increased only 12 million euros or 0.09%.

According to data of State Treasury, which were processed by the General Secretariat of Public Revenues, in 2015 the government collected 43.614 billion euros from taxes, while in 2014 it collected 44.225 billion euros recording a 1.38% decrease in revenue.

Moreover, revenue from direct taxes decreased to 19.844 billion euros in 2015, while in 2014 the state received 20.456 billion euros recording a 3% decrease in revenue.

In addition, there was a decrease in state revenue from Customs due to the capital controls.
