Avramopoulos: 100,000 refugees and immigrants will enter Greece until the end of March

“Greece is not alone, since Europe is on its side” said on Saturday EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos at an event on refugee organized by Konstantinos Karamanlis Institute for Democracy and the Adenauer Foundation.

Mr. Avramopoulos commented yesterday’s statement of political leaders saying that it is consistent with the spirit of the summit of the EU to take place on Monday. “EU summit is extremely important and decisive for the months to come” he said.

Mr. Avramopoulos reiterated that “there is no risk for any member state to be excluded from Schengen zone”.

He also referred to the thousands of refugees and immigrants stuck in Greece saying that about 100,000 people will enter Greece until the end of March.

Presenting recent data, he said that 57% of refugees coming to Europe are children and that more than 10,000 people are trapped at Greece’s border with Macedonia.
