Bulgaria Proposes Tihomir Stoychev to Become New Envoy to U.S.

Bulgaria's government has proposed to appoint Tihomir Stoychev as the country's new ambassador to the United States.

The proposal to Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev to issue a decree for Stoychev's appointment is posted on the government website.

Stoychev, a career diplomat, has served as foreign policy secretary to Plevneliev since 2012. He had been Chargé d'Affaires at the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington D.C. from late 2009 until current Ambassador Elena Poptodorova took over in 2010.

Poptodorova's term of office will expire in the middle of 2016.

Stoychev had also served in the Bulgarian diplomatic mission to the EU between 1996 and 2000.
