600 years in prison demanded for Turkish teacher
A public prosecutor demanded 600 years in prison for a teacher who is suspected of sexually assaulting ten male students in a foundation house in the central Anatolian province of Karaman.
A criminal case was filed at the Karaman Court of Serious Crimes against the teacher after a public prosecutor accused the teacher of "sexually abusing a child," "deprivation of freedom," "deliberately injuring" and "encouraging a child to read and view obscene publications," said Oktay Y?lmaz, Karaman bar association head, on March 21.
Speaking at a press conference at the association's office, Y?lmaz added that the lawyers of the bar are observing the case closely for the suspect to be punished heavily and that they will defend victims and their families voluntarily in the course of the trial.
The 54-year-old teacher, identified as M.B., who had been teaching private courses for students in apartments rented by the Karaman branch of the Ensar Foundation, was arrested on March 4 upon a claim he sexually assaulted his male students in the apartments.
