Hand Grenade Explodes as Vucic Visits Kosovo

Vucic is campaigning for the Serbian elections which are due to take place on April 24th. The explosion happened a few hours before he arrived in the Serbian-populated north of Kosovo.
 
Kosovo police spokesman Besim Hoti confirmed the attack, saying that initial reports suggest that a hand grenade was thrown in the hall and several bullet casings from an automatic weapon were found.

"The explosion is suspected to have been caused by a hand grenade by 3 am? and a private car was damaged," Hoti said.

Hoti said that the police units are patrolling the area and the prosecution is proceeding with an investigation.

The police official also said that the Serbian prime minister's visit was proceeding according to plan.

The Kosovo government gave Vucic permission for this visit, and the Kosovo police are involved in ensuring his security, according to Hoti.

"I will not be frightened by bombs", Vucic said in Leposavic, one of several northern municipalities with Serbian majority.

Marko Djuric, the director of the Serbian Office for Kosovo said: "There is no doubt that this is a highly dangerous attack, a terrorist attack."

During his stay in Kosovo, Vucic also visited Kosovska Mitrovica, Zubin Potok as well as the Trepca mining company, whose fate is now one of the hottest problems of the EU-brokered dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

He told local Serbs that Belgrade's stance towards the status of Kosovo has not changed. "We will not recognize Kosovo," he said.

The Serbian PM rejected the idea of visiting Pristina for Friday's inauguration of Kosovo's new president Hashim Thaci. "Such a thing is not going to happen for a long time," Vucic said.
