Bulgaria's Burgas to Launch E-Ticket System for Public Transport in June

The Bulgarian city of Burgas will launch a modern electronic ticket system for its public transport in June.

Passengers will be allowed to change several buses at no additional cost if the total time of their journey does not exceed 45 minutes.

This was announced at the presentation of the new electronic ticket system and new transport scheme in the municipality of Burgas on Monday.

The introduction of electronic card for public transport with provide several options - the purchase of single ticket for travel on one vehicle; integrated ticket with time limit for travel on the entire public transport network; transport products for certain groups of people at preferential prices (students, pensioners), family and group travel.

The cards will come in different appearances and colours according to the discounts and expiry dates.

Credit on the electronic cards will be charged at vending machines which will be placed on seven key locations throughout the city.

Vending machines will offer passengers to charge the plastic cards, check the credit available in the card and to purchase tickets which will also be in the shape of a card.

The card offers several advantages. If it is lost, the card is blocked and a new one is issued with the credit available on the old one transferred to the new one. The credit on the card does not expire at the end of the month and is transferred to the next month.

In the future, the smart card will offer additional benefits such as entrance to museums and tourist attractions and the renting of bikes.

Paper tickets will still be available for purchase from the driver but at a higher price.
