Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has appointed Prof. Ivan Dimov as Deputy Education Minister, the government's press service informed on Friday.

Prof. Dimov holds a doctorate in technical sciences and is specialist in devising mathematical models in the field of ecology and financial mathematics.

At present, he is chairperson of the scientific council to the Institute of information and communication technologies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAN).

Dimov will succeed Prof. Nikolay Denkov who resigned as Deputy Education Minister last week due to disagreement with the priorities and the working style of Education Minister Meglena Kuneva.

Later, Denkov explained that the new team at the ministry had excluded him from the discussions on the European education and science programme, for which he had been responsible until recently.

This is the latest in a series of reshuffles to the composition of the education ministry after the resignation of Todor Tanev as education minister earlier this year.

Prime Minister Borisov asked Tanev to resign due to the systematic problems in the ministry and the proposed controversial changes to the school curriculum which had not been subject to broad public discussion.

Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva succeeded Tanev as Education Minister. This was followed by a series of reshuffles of the deputy ministers.
