Prosecutor seeks release of arrested academics
A prosecutor in a case into four academics who were accused of spreading "terrorist propaganda" in signing a peace petition has asked for their release during a hearing on April 23.
The academics, Esra Mungan, Muzaffer Kaya, K?vanç Ersoy and Meral Camc? were arrested on March 15 for holding a press conference at the Education and Science Workers' Union's (E??T?M-Sen) 6th Office in Istanbul, where they read out a declaration entitled "We won't be part of this crime," a reference to military operations in Southeast Turkey.
