Joint Bulgarian-Greek Units To Patrol Borders with Turkey

As of the end of September, joint Bulgarian-Greek units will patrol the Bulgarian-Greek and Bulgarian-Turkish borders against the illegal traffic of refugees. In the current situation, there are sections along the Bulgarian-Greek and Bulgarian-Turkish borders which are not secured physically and are being used for the trafficking of migrants.

Greek Interior Ministry officials have been cited as saying that "the Interior Ministries of Bulgaria and Greece have been seriously criticised by their colleagues in the EU for the secondary flows of migrants which pass through the territory of the two countries on their way to Central and Western Europe." The aim of the joint units is to limit the migrant flow from Turkey.
