European Migration Commissioner Avramopoulos Praises Bulgarian Efforts on Migration
The migrant crisis was the main topic of the talks between European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Mitov and Bulgarian Interior Minister Bachvarova.
The Commissioner pointed out the very important role which Bulgaria will play on the European scene after the upcoming establishment in Bulgaria of a new European Border and Coastal Guard.
Avramopoulos praised the efforts of the Bulgarian government to deal with the problem in close cooperation with the EU. Your country is under pressure, but it is not alone. The EU is backing you and the decision to allocate EUR 160 M in emergency assistance for dealing with the migrant crisis is proof of this, added Avramopoulos.
The new Border and Coast Guard is a huge success of European solidarity, stated Bachvarova.
The United Nations adopted a political declaration on refugees in which it undertakes the obligation to make safe the global refugee flow which has reached over 21 million persons worldwide.
Thanks to the efforts of Bulgarian diplomats the final document on migration included two key components i.e. the obligation of states to work together for the signing of agreements on readmission and repatriation, added Mitov.
