Thwarted Bomb Attempt in German City of Kemnitz

Heavily armed special forces evacuated a block of flats in the German city of Kemnitz on Saturday.

People in the remaining buildings of the neighbourhood were asked to remain in their homes. The police announced that there was a signal for a planned bomb attack.

At around 13:00 hrs local time a strong explosion was heard in the evacuated building. The authorities reported that this is part of the actions of the police.

The police have not managed to find the plotter.

Later, it became clear that the police are looking for 22-year old Syrian Jaber Albakir from Damascus.
