Anarchists eye Obama visit

As self-styled anarchists scale up their activities in Athens, anarchist group Rouvikonas (Rubicon) on Tuesday called for protests during a scheduled visit to Greece on November 15 by US President Barack Obama.

"Let us give the president of the USA the welcome that he deserves," the group said in a statement posted online. "Submission, passivity comes at a cost," it said. "Faced with the worst that is to come, submission means collective suicide. Everyone on the streets. Solidarity is the weapon of the people."

Rouvikonas has been linked to many acts of vandalism on public property, including smashing Athens metro ticket machines and a paint attack on the Turkish Embassy.
