Moderate tremor shakes southwest Peloponnese

A moderate tremor measuring between 4.3-4.5 on the Richter scale rattled towns and villages in Messinia and Ilia in the southwestern Peloponnese on Friday afternoon.

According to the Geodynamic Institute in Athens, the 4.3-scale earthquake struck off the seaside village of Methoni.

The France-based European Mediterranean Seismological Center put the quake's magnitude at 4.5 on the Richter scale and said the epicenter was 21 kilometers off Methoni's southwest coast.
