Serbian Activists Accuse Official of Making Threats
Ksenija Radovanovic, from the Let's not Drown Belgrade initiative, said one person from the government who had openly threatened them was Milos Vacic, a newly appointed adviser to the government's Office for Kosovo and Metohija, and former leader of the nationalist 1389 movement.
The movement says Nemanja Ristic, accused of plotting terrorist acts on 16 October in Montenegro, has also made threats.
On its Facebook page, the civil initiative - which has organized the mass protests against the controversial Belgrade Waterfront project and the mysterious demolitions of sites in the city's Savamala area - posted that activists have filed more than 30 indictments over the various threats and violent messages they have received on social networks.
"We say they were threating us but it is for the prosecutor to decide whether they were or not," Radovanovic said.
BIRN contacted the Interior Ministry about what action it was taking in the cases but received no response by time of publication.
"We reported posts from Milos Vacic on 20.06.2016 and 25.07.2016. The posts have been deleted in the meantime," Radovanovic said.
She sent BIRN screen shots, allegedly of Vacic's posts, containing messages such as: "They should be killed with a terrible death" ["Treba ih pobiti mučkom smrću"].
Vacic has denied the accusations, calling them ridiculous. "I never did any such thing," he told BIRN.
Asked about the screen shots of his posts, he questioned their credibility. "Who can prove the credibility of that? The one [making the accusation] could open a profile," Vacic said.
