Argentina: Strong Rejection Against Court Ruling That Could Lead to Release of Human Rights Abusers

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Argentina, an example for the world in overturning amnesty laws and punishing the figures responsible for the kidnapping, torture, baby theft and murder of over 30,000 people during its 1976-1983 dictatorship, is seeing widespread public rejection this week after a Supreme Court ruling could grant freedom to hundreds of these criminals.

The Supreme Court last week delivered a decision that military officers convicted of crimes against humanity will benefit from the "2×1 law," which allows the days the officers spent in custody before their definitive sentence was handed down to count as double.
