US ambassador says Serbian tabloid "Informer" is "scum"

US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott on Thursday strongly criticized the daily Informer, referring to it as "ordinary scum."

He reacted after a journalist with the newspaper asked about reports that the EU plans to "halt and make difficult" Serbia's membership negotiations "because some officials do not like the way Aleksandar Vucic leads Serbia."

Speaking in Serbian, Scott said:

"Are you from Informer? Forgive me for saying this, but it won't be the only lie I've read in Informer, and it probably won't be the last. There is so-called information based on sources that I have no idea who they are. Informer is ordinary scum, as your prime minister would say. Media should be based on facts, and I see no facts in Informer."
