Worker rescued after being trapped underground for one hour in Turkey's Denizli

A worker was rescued after 1.5 hours of being trapped underground following a landslide in a construction site in the Aegean province of Denizli on June 12, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported. 

Behnur Elmas was trapped by a landslide while he was installing geothermal heat pipes in Denizli's Sarayköy district at 6:30 p.m. on June 12. 

At first, his colleagues tried to rescue him from beneath huge mounds of soil, but failed to do so before informing rescue authorities. 

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a number of police officers, fire crews and ambulances were dispatched to the scene. AFAD crews and the Denizli Municipality began the rescue work for the trapped worker. 

The worker was rescued after meticulous efforts and taken to the Denizli State Hospital. Officials said there were severe injuries on his body.

Elmas was hired by a private energy firm.
 
An investigation has been opened into the incident.
