Ministry: Serbia not importing eggs from Netherlands

Serbia has not been importing eggs from the Netherlands and citizens need not be concerned, Beta was told by the Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday.

This comes after the Dutch authorities announced that they shut down farms after finding high concentrations of Fipronil, an insecticide banned due to its negative effects on human health.

The European Commission warned that it was possible the contaminated eggs had wound up in stores in seven EU countries.

The World Health Organization considers the insecticide "moderately toxic" as it can damage the kidneys, liver and lymph glands.
