Dacic: October 5 changes were big scam financed from abroad

The chief of Serbia's diplomacy and the leader of the Socialists (SPS), Ivica Dacic, says that October 5, 2000 changes were "scam financed from abroad."

He was commenting on the 17th anniversary of demonstrations staged by the opposition that ended the rule of Slobodan Milosevic - the founder and leader of the SPS until his death, when Dacic took over.

According to Dacic, Vojislav Kostunica, the candidate of the opposition coalition DOS in the presidential election held on September 24, 2000, did not actually win.

"I am personally very grateful for October 5, because, if it weren't for it, I would not have become the president of the SPS," said Dacic, who was an SPS official at the time, and returned to power in a coalition with the Democrats (DS) in 2008.

In addition, the Socialist leader also stated that October 5 was "one big scam."
