Minister speaks out for teachers in spite of deal
Education Minister Costas Gavroglou on Wednesday admitted to signing an agreement with Greece's international creditors for state teachers to work a minimum of 30 hours a week, but suggested that forcing Greek teachers was unfair as they have been overburdened due to austerity cuts.
"We told them that our teachers, at the moment, are not able to work more," Gavroglou said, claiming that Greek teachers do more than their European peers.
"Teachers here take care of children during breaks, set up tests and do all sorts of administrative work," he said.
