Kosovo Parliament to Vote on Border Demarcation with Montenegro
Following a meeting of the Kosovo government on Tuesday in which the cabinet amended the draft law on the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro, Kosovo's Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, said he will request for parliament to vote on the controversial issue on Thursday.
"We request an extraordinary parliamentary session. There is a will for this to happen and I propose this to take place the day after tomorrow [Thursday] at 10am," Haradinaj said, adding: "I hope that we will be unified in this."
The government added to the draft law the joint statement made on Friday by the presidents of Kosovo and Montenegro, Hashim Thaci and Filip Vujanovic respectively, in which they announced that the two states had agreed to work together on identifying points of dispute.
A parliamentary session to ratify the agreement was called for last Sunday, but it was postponed.
The new border deal was agreed between the two countries in 2015, but Kosovo has failed to ratify it due to strong opposition from several parties, which claim it deprives Kosovo of territory.
