ForMin Melescanu chairs meeting of Group for European Action of Republic of Moldova
Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Melescanu on Monday chaired the meeting of the Group for European Action of the Republic of Moldova (GAERM), informed MAE in a press release.
The meeting was organized in Brussels on the sidelines of the Foreign Affairs Council, where the Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi was the main guest.
Alongside the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs from the EU member states, participating in the meeting were also high officials from the institutions of the Union.
The participants made an exchange of opinions on the European track of Chisinau, with emphasis on the reform process and action priorities in the context of the implementation of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EU.
"The debates confirmed the interest of the European partners regarding the developments in the Republic of Moldova, with the participants hailing Moldova's commitment to continue with the necessary reforms during its European journey. Moreover, discussions also focused on the expectations of the EU member states in respect to the acceleration and strengthening of the reforms that Moldovan authorities undertook to accomplish. From this perspective, the participants underscored that the final objective of the reform efforts is the improvement of living standards of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova," says the same release.
In his speech, Minister Melescanu highlighted the progresses already made by the Republic of Moldova in numerous areas, as well as the areas needing even more efforts. He called for firm support of the member states to the European objectives of the Republic of Moldova.
"I will continue to believe that, regardless of the challenges that it could face, the Republic of Moldova will show determination in continuing with the reforms, while building on its existing achievements and bringing direct benefits to the citizens. However, it is obvious that the Republic of Moldova won't be able to achieve its European objectives alone, needing support and encouragement from the EU during the entire reform process," showed Melescanu.
GAERM is an informal ministerial mechanism established in January 2010 upon Romania's initiative with the help of France, which proved efficient in promoting the Republic of Moldova's interests and increasing its visibility on the European agenda. The Monday meeting was the group's 12th and was convened by ministers of Foreign Affairs of Romania and France.
