PM Dancila: No pensioner in the public system will have a decreased pension

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila announced on Sunday at the private TV station Romania TV that she wants a draft law on pensions to be presented in Parliament by the end of this year and that, based on it, no pensioner in the public system will have a decreased pension.

The prime minister said that a pension law is "absolutely necessary", given that there are "many dysfunctions" in the field.

"A person who worked the same number of years in the same field, but retired in a different year from another person who worked similarly, has a different pension. Well, we have to try - and I gave one example, to fix these injustices in the system. I'm confessing that we have three pension laws, three models, three ways in which the pension law was worked on. We have a variant, but we have technical difficulties. There are 5.1 million pensioners, we have 1,200 people working in this area and who must, in order to enforce the law on pensions, take every single file ... (...) Well, this involves an additional number of people working for the law pensions, and for me it is important, as Prime Minister, as important it is for the minister of Labour and for those who expect a good outcome related to the pension law to see how we can apply from a technical point of view this pension law. I do not want us anymore to be in a situation where a law comes and then we see that we have dysfunctions and then look for ways to regulate that. We want to come up with a law that takes the reality into account, solves the problems in the pension system, and at the same time to be appreciated by the pensioners in Romania. What I can tell you is that no pensioner in the public system will have a decreased pension," Viorica Dancila mentioned.AGERPRES(RO - author: Irina Visan, editor: Nona Jalb; EN - author: Bogdan Gabaroi, editor: Maria Voican)
