PM Dancila: PSD's opponents have started alarmist speech to contest the party's governing program

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said on Tuesday, in the Chamber of Deputies' plenum, that the PSD's opponents started an alarmist speech to contest the party's governing program, a thing "has not done well for Romania".

"The Social Democratic Party's ruling program saw from the beginning an automatic rejection from the opponents of the party I represent. (...) In 2017, PSD's opponents started an alarmist speech to challenge this program that I tell you very sincerely has not done well to Romania. More responsibility is needed when these messages are exported abroad. To whom do these serve? To Romanians, Romania? No way", Dancila said.

At the same time, the head of the Government stated that, although there were major divergences between the economic policies of PSD and PNL, "never before has such radicalization of the public discourse been reached".

"The economic growth of 2017 and the responsible way in which the PSD Government has used it have demonstrated the viability of the PSD governing program and the ability of the PSD-ALDE to achieve good governance. The alarming scenarios have not come true, on the contrary. Romania recorded one of the largest economic growth in Europe and even in the world, and this growth is now felt in the pockets of Romanians," Dancila said.

She said that Romania registered a record economic growth of 7% in 2017, meaning a GDP of 856.4 billion lei.

"In 2017, the added value in the economy was 94 billion lei, almost double from the 49.7 billion lei in 2016. Added to this is 11.8 billion lei from import. The most are intermediate goods for industrial production and capital goods. As such, according to the National Statistics Institute, for the year 2017, in the national economy as a whole, the money from the economic growth used for consumption and investments amounted to 105.8 billion lei," said Dancila.
