WhatsApp Raises the Minimum Age For Use in the EU
The popular WhatsApp communication app will now only allow users over the age of 16 to use it. The measure applies to the countries of the European Union.
So far, the border was 13 years old. The change is due to the new rules on personal data protection that enter into force in the EU in May.
The Facebook-owned app will also require its users to confirm their age and agree to new conditions, the BBC said.
However, there is still no information as to whether new users are really over 16 years of age or are lying about their age.
In the UK, for example, WhatsApp is quite popular among children between 12 and 15 years of age. This is the fifth most widely used app in this age group after Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube.
