Bosnian Diplomat Denies Attending US Jerusalem Ceremony

Jelena Rajakovic, the Bosnian ambassador to Israel, on Friday denied media reports that she attended the opening ceremony of the US embassy in Jerusalem earlier this week, amid confusion about whether a Bosnian delegation was present or not.

"I firmly insist that at the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem no one from the embassy of Bosnia was there, nor at the opening ceremony, nor at the reception," Rajakovic said in a statement.

Her denial came after the Palestinian Community, an organisation representing Palestinians in Bosnia and Herzegovina, urged the country's presidency to launch an investigation to provide accurate information about whether or not Rajakovic attended in Jerusalem on Monday.

"We know that Bosnia coordinates its foreign policy with the foreign policy of the EU. The majority of the EU member states, except for Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Romania, boycotted the opening ceremony in line with the policy of not accepting Jerusalem as a single capital city of Israel until its status is solved through Palestinian-Israeli bilateral talks," the Palestinian Community said in its letter to the presidency.

The chair of Bosnia's presidency, Bakir Izetbegovic, who also leads the main Bosniak Party of Democratic Action, SDA, told Al Jazeera Balkans on Thursday night that Bosnia's ambassador to Israel should not have attended the opening ceremony.

But Izetbegovic admitted he had no information about whether a Bosnian delegation was actually at the embassy opening. He said it not have happened without prior consultations with the presidency.
