Rama Scorns Idea of Albania Hosting Processing Camps

Speaking to the German newspaper Bild, he said Albania "will not build refugee centres, even in exchange for EU accession ... The refugee crisis must be solved independently of the current state of our accession efforts."

The European Council of Foreign Ministers on Tuesday supported EU enlargement to include Albania and Macedonia - subject to certain reforms - while postponing a final decision about opening accession negotiations.

Meanwhile, Rama has been accused by opposition parties of agreeing to host camps for migrants in exchange for a positive decision on opening membership negotiations.

Several politicians at a European level and in Austria and Germany have supported the idea, as part of a wider discussion about how Europe should deal with refugees, migrants and asylum seekers.

Up till now, Rama has denied knowledge of any negotiations to host such camps.
