Moldovans Protest Afresh Over Scrapped Mayoral Election

Thousands of people protested on Sunday in Chisinau against the recent invalidation of the mayoral election in Moldova's capital.

The rally was organised by the pro-European Action and Solidarity Party, PAS, led by Maia Sandu, and the Dignity and Truth Platform, PDA, led by Andrei Nastase.

The protesters demanded confirmation of the election for Chisinau City Hall, the validation of Nastase's victory and the cancellation of the mixed electoral system and the return of the proportional voting system.

Moldova's Supreme Court on June 25 upheld an earlier ruling by a court that invalidated the June 3 local election won by Nastase.
