Kosovo Citizens Expect Serbia Dialogue to End in Recognition

Sixty-one per cent of Kosovo citizens expect the final phase of the Brussels-mediated dialogue to lead to the recognition of Kosovo's independence from Serbia, a new survey published on Wednesday by the Kosovo Democratic Institute, KDI, has found.

The poll surveyed over 1,000 Kosovo citizens on their expectations for the final stage of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, which the two Presidents of Kosovo and Serbia began on June 23 in Brussels, but also included respondents' attitudes towards potential snap elections and political preferences.

It found that 56 per cent of Kosovo citizens expect Kosovo to join the UN, 22 per cent expect an exchange of territories between the Kosovo and Serbia, and 25 per cent expect more autonomy for Kosovo Serbs, according to Violeta Haxholli from KDI.

Although no framework for the dialogue has been published, both Kosovo's President, Hashim Thaci, and his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic have hinted that the talks would lead to a legally binding international agreement.
