UB40, Ky-Mani Marley, The Hives to perform at GreenSounds eclectic music festival
The GreenSounds international eclectic music festival will take place this weekend in King Mihai I Park, the former Herastrau Park, at the Charles de Gaulle entranceway, with Ky-Mani Marley, UB40 and The Hives expected to perform, according to a press statement release by the Bucharest City Hall (PMB).
"The free-admission festival offers three days of 26 concerts by highly acclaimed artists and bands from Romania and abroad, on two stages that will be activated successively, recreational activities and a street food area, in an attempt to celebrate the city at the end of summer with outdoor music and dancing," according to PMB.
The first day of the festival on Friday gives Jamaican artist Ky-Mani Marley, son of Bob Marley, who comes to Romania for the first time.
"His songs transcend cultural barriers and place him above a simple reggae music artist, as his creations also include hip hop, blues and rock sounds, offering thorough his live concerts a musical journey through which the audience sees his versatility and passion for music. On the first day, the concertgoers can watch the live performances on the two outdoor stages of Veran Zorila, K-Lu, Jurjak, Roa, Toulouse Lautrec, Subcarpati and Basska."
Also for the first time in Romania, the Hives of Sweden will be performing at the festival hits such as "Hate to Say I Told You So," "Main Offender," and "Veni Vidi Vicious," which are said to have revived the Garage Rock and Garage Punk worldwide. On the second day of the festival, the Austrian Sofa Surfers, promoters of a mix of rock and electronic music with trip hop, dub and acid jazz influences sprinkled through, will step in. The day will be filled by artists and local bands such as Hefe, Norunegru, The Kryptonite Sparks, RoadkillSoda, Omul cu Sobolani, Implant pentru Refuz and Coma.
On Sunday, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue will take the stage to play hits such as "Red, Red Wine," "Kingston Town," "One In Ten," "(I Can't Help) Falling In Love With You,' along with tracks from their new album "A Real Labour of Love." Also on Sunday, on the last day of the festival, Club des Belugas, one of Europe's most important German Nujazz bands, will join in. "The club of instrumentalists, vocalists and DJs creatively mixes the Electro, Lounge and Nujazz contemporary styles with Brazilian beat, Swing and American Black Soul from the 50s, 60s and 70s," according to the presentation of the festival.
Also singing on the two stages mounted in the park will be Romanian bands The Details, Grimus, NextEx, The Amsterdams, artist Valeria Stoica and DJs CS84 and Guz.
Admission to the festival organised by Creart - The Centre for Creation, Arts and Tradition of Bucharest Municipality is free.
